In 2011, the GMC Canyon compact truck is available with two or four wheel drive in three body styles: regular cab, extended and crew cab. Crew cabins are equipped with a cargo box 5 feet, while the other is equipped with a bed Canyons of 6 feet. There are three main trim levels to choose from - Work Truck, SLE and SLT - with allocations slightly different equipment depending on the style of the body.

Available on SLE and SLT package is the Z71 off-road suspension (including the large wheels and tires, skid plates and a locking rear differential on 4WD models) and ZQ8 suspension sports package (including a lowered suspension, steering faster and 18 - inch wheels with performance tires). Other options on various models include 17 - and 18-inch wheels, remote keyless entry, fog lights, automatic dimming mirror again, running boards, front bucket seats and a six-CD changer.

But Canyon deserves high marks for its simple layout and straightforward operating controls and gauges. Curb weight is slightly pinched on extended cab models and the cabin crew, while the entrance and exit for rear passengers can be a bit challenging because of rather small rear door openings. The rear cargo boxes feature Canyon at two levels of loading, and removable double-position tailgate can be secured partially open to supporting the position of the 4-by-8 sheets of wood on top of its wheel arches .
